How long should I wait before I consult a fertility specialist?

We have been trying to conceive for over a year now with one miscarriage in April. I am just really nervous about everything as my mother had multiple problems trying to conceive me and had 3 miscarriages before she finally conceived me. I am not sure if fertility problems are hereditary or not but it sure does make me nervous being I have already had one miscarriage. Also does anyone know how much IUI cost in north carolina around the wilmington area and if so any good doctors? Thanks a bunch
