How successful are IUIs? And when can I test for pregnancy after one?

I am getting my first IUI done today. I just did a round of clomid which actually worked on its own so no injectables were needed (yahoo!) Anyone know how often they work? I have random periods so I am not sure when to test for pregnancy after it. Is 14 days the standard rule?
